TRANSFORMATION SMALL GROUPS

Click here to see this picture enlarged Brethren, let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day approaching.
- Hebrews 10:23-25

A. Hines/McDonald Small Group:
Our small group is a great combination of Evening Prayer, Bible study, prayer, and a short time for visiting around Alice McDonald’s wonderful cookies and coffee. Led by Bryant McDonald. We meet 2nd and 4th Monday evenings of the month in Rockwall from 7 until 9ish.

Open to new members? Yes.

Contact person phone number: Hal Hines - (972) 203-1759

Our time together is rooted in the evening prayer found in the Book of Common Prayer. We are studying the minor prophets at the moment using a workbook. Prayer for our church, our children, missionaries, ourselves is very important to us. There is an emphasis on prayer for healing and we try to stay updated on those needs. The final thing that we do is enjoy one another over a cookie (well, o.k. several cookies) and coffee. We try to eat a meal together around Christmas time.

What blesses you the most about your group? What is its strength? “One strength of our group is our bible study facilitator, Bryant McDonald. He keeps us on a good path! He says that we all come prepared and we have lively discussion. Another strength is our birthday remembrance. Alice always has a card for the birthday boy or girl, and Alice has a lovely cake which we all enjoy and then the celebrant takes home. Arranging our time together around evening prayer is good and keeps us connected to the liturgical year in our group.”

B. Rockwall Small group:
Ten families are represented who come from Rockwall, Quinlan, Royse City, and Dallas. The group meets to do Bible or Christian themed book study, prayer, and sharing on the 1st and 3rd Mondays from 7:30-9pm, in Chandler’s Landing. Led by Dick Davenport.
Open to new members? “Yes, we are.”

Contact person phone number: Dick Davenport (214) 460-0978

What blesses you the most about your group? What is its strength?
“The presence and work of the Holy Spirit among us to build up each person and give us joy in getting together. The unity and caring in the Holy Spirit and the peacefulness and generosity of Jimmy and Cynthia and their home.”

C. Figueroa/Stolar Small group:
This is a new group that meets in Rowlett on Wednesdays from 7:00- 8:30pm.

Open to new members? “Yes...we were one of the newest home groups to develop just under 2 years ago. Presently we have 6 attending.”

Contact phone numbers: Ed Figueroa, (972) 463-6431 or Paul Stolar, (972) 271-7992

We visit and share but leave enough time for a Bible study, or a study about a church or biblical topic. It is an open discussion group with everyone reading, expressing and sharing whatever they feel the Holy Spirit leads them to say.

At the conclusion we pray as a group for each one’s needs and petitions when led. We also serve snacks and coffee during fellowship.

What blesses you the most about your group? “Everyone lifts up each other...there is plenty of humor and laughter...we can get off on a tangent but we know when to get back where we need to be. It is not a structured format but very open and free.“

What is strength? “The support we have for one another. When sharing the stuff of our lives we take time to listen and to encourage one another when we each need to be lifted up.”

“Consistency, too — we meet no matter the number.”

D. Schulgen Small Group:
This group currently includes two couples — and we would love to add new faces! We meet on Wednesdays at 7:00 in North Rockwall/Wylie area. We are currently going through a study for the Order of St. Luke prayer ministry.

Contact person phone number: Bill or Daymon Schulgen at 972 442-2474

E. Maneval Small Group:
We have a genial mix of couples, singles, widowed. Currently we have a core of 10, with 2 or 3 who come as they can. We meet on Wednesday evenings at 7 in the South Garland area. The hosting is rotated among us (we make sure everyone knows). In our meeting most often we read and discuss the Bible lessons that will be read in church the coming Sunday. We share praises and prayer requests and pray together. Afterwards, we have fellowship with snacks and coffee. The first Wednesday of the month we have supper out together.

Open to new members? Certainly.

Contact person phone number: Rick or Sara Maneval (972) 278-1878

What blesses you the most about your group? What is its strength?
“How we pray for each other. Our strength: we have several members
who have walked with the Lord many years. They are awesome teachers and pray-ers.”

F. Thorogood Small group:
We are a Small Group made up of 14 members.

We meet at 7:30pm on Wednesdays in South Garland. Generally we have a time of fellowship followed by a Bible Study and then close with prayer. If someone has a birthday during the week we will have a cake and celebrate!

Open to new members? “We always have room.”

Contact person phone number: Bill or Pat Thorogood, (972) 840-2562

What blesses you the most about your group? What is its strength? “We’re blessed by the love our group has for one another. Our strength is maturity in the Lord.”

G. Hessletine Small group:
We meet in the Lake Highlands area every Wednesday from 7:30-9pm. Usually we have a Bible Study and share prayer requests every meeting. We also have occasional “eating meetings” throughout the year — always one around Thanksgiving time and around Ash Wednesday.

Open to new members? YES — we are open!

Contact person phone number: Jack Hesseltine, 214-342-2361

What blesses you the most about your group? What is its strength?
“Support through anything. We have helped with meals, when people move, after funeral gatherings. The strength is the commitment to each other through our relationship with Jesus. We are real and have a rule of confidentiality of the group so that we can be honest and open with each other. Many people have been members “for a season:, while others have been apart of the group for 10 to 20 years.”

H. Maupin Bible Study:
We read & study between meeting nights then share our insights and answers to study guide questions when we meet. Our only reference is the Bible while using other texts for structure. Our current study is a text and workbook named “Be Ye Transformed”. Previously we studied the 26 healing miracles of Christ as part of the Order of St. Luke prayer ministry training. We open and close with prayer. Closing prayer is an extended prayer time for our group members needs and others on our hearts. We meet twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Mondays at 7:00PM to about 8:30PM near Jupiter and NW Hwy. in Lake Highlands.

Open to new members? “Yes. We are always open to new members.”

Contact person phone number: Larry or Susan Maupin, (214) 341-5651

What blesses you the most about your group? What is its strength?
“We are always blessed when we grow in our knowledge and under-standing of how God’s love for us has shaped all of history, and how He is constantly at work on our behalf today. Our strength is the love we share for each other which allows each of us to be himself or herself while learning to be all that God wants us to be.

I. Pendergrass small group:
Meeting in Mesquite at 7pm on Wednesdays, this group of eight would be open to including others.

During the evening members share about goings-on in their lives followed by a Bible study, sharing of prayer requests and closing with prayer around 8:30.

“The blessing we receive is an oasis of peace and prayer in the middle of a busy work pace. Also we are a diverse group of married and widowed members from different backgrounds and different beginnings. both geographic and spiritual. One strength we are blessed with: members who are mature in years and the Word — helpful when questions come up in discussion.”
