PENTECOST SUNDAY

Sunday, May 20, 2018

, TX

This year, the fiftieth day of Easter, Pentecost, falls on Sunday, May 20th. This is the Sunday when we commemorate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Christ. The season of Pentecost, which begins on Pentecost
Sunday, is often referred to as "Ordinary Time". It is the last season of our liturgical year, and it extends through the last Sunday of Pentecost/Christ the King Sunday, November 25th. The liturgical color for the season of Pentecost is green which traditionally represents growth, especially in faith.
The collect for Pentecost Sunday is:
"Almighty God, on this day you opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation by the promised gift of your Holy Spirit: Shed abroad this gift throughout the world by the preaching of the Gospel, that it may reach to the ends of the earth." Amen.
